With my theatrical imagination running rampant, I have dearly wished to see this story function as a piece of theatre. Welty has lent her story such vitality that it has seemed only natural that "Why I Live at the P. An admirable and potentially fruitful project, yet one I never seriously considered attempting myself-until my Senior Individualized Project presented itself as the perfect opportunity to realize my ambitions for Sister , Stella-Rondo, Papa Daddy,and the rest.

Come and stand in my heart, whoever you are, and a whole river would cover your feet and rise higher and take your knees in whirlpools, and draw you down to itself, your whole body, your heart too. Out in the middle of nowhere, stupid things happening to the man just recently ill for a long time, back on the road too soon, relying on the kindness of strangers out in remote Mississippi, like a parcel of a place cut off from all but the neighbours' farm.
Too colloquial for me, too few moments or descriptions of pleasure, 'cept 'how the pasture was all spotty there behind her little blue skirt, in sweet clover. And the Big Black River, with a hat left beside it. A first person account of an unknown white man murdering a black local, possibly a member of the NAACP - National Association for the Advancement of Colored People - outside his house in the small hours of the morning in , presumably in a town in Mississippi, during the period of race riots there and Alabama etc.

Still do, I believe. Very distinct voices laying out the odd, the outcast, and the evil that lurks in the back roads and the shadows of a sleeping neighbourhood, or, sometimes, the good. A tiny book about 4x4. Four interesting, well-written short short stories. I had some difficulty following the stories as I stumbled over the local vernacular and speech patters of the South, which I am not familiar with. But then that's how she captured the essence of life in the south in her day.

Sister was greatly affected when her sister broke the bonds of sisterhood by stealing her boyfriend and marrying him. Secondly, Sister was affected by the favoritism shown by her family towards her younger sister. Since her sister was favored more than her, this caused her to be jealous of her sister.
For example, Sister shows a lot of jealousy by the tone she uses when describing what Stella-Rondo did with the bracelet that their grandfather gave her. Papa-Daddy gave her this gorgeous Add-a-Pearl necklace when sh By doing this, she rules out reconciling with her sister and gives up on ever having a relationship with her sister.
