Alternate versions Also released in a 3D version. User reviews Review. Top review. Definitely Better than I was Expecting. I was expecting this film to be a lot worse but it was supported by my JC - James Cameron as executive producer and it does have some of the best 3D visuals out there. I praise Alister Grierson for using proper 3D cameras and not only that, the ones JC prefers and created.

It was a joy to actually watch a proper 3D film and not the hideous post production 3D I have bitched about on numerous occasions. I think the utilizing of JC written everywhere will definitely help this film immensely and to some extent it truly deserves it. Some of the scenes in this film are poetic artwork and sheer beauty and provide some mouth agape splendor. And the 3D really does immerse you in the environment, there were moments of vertigo and a constant claustrophobia suffered by myself.

The only thing I have struggled to do that I have tried is scuba diving - I chewed through the mouthpiece and kept wanting to rip my mask off - not a cool way to dive. The film also has a really worked out plot, the story is great, although it has been done to death before in different settings, it's an escape film like Towering Inferno. In fact think of The Poseidon Adventure minus the boat. Getting Started Contributor Zone ». Edit page. Top Gap.

With only one tank left for the three remaining survivors, Carl takes it and goes back into the river. They also find the remains of a WWII era tank that had fallen into the cave. After finding the underground river again, Frank and Josh come across Carl. The animated map even flips on its horizontal axis, apparently to show off. Hey, I can do stuff like that on my Mac, and then my hair is parted on the other side!

The movie is a case study in how not to use 3-D. The lighting apparently comes from battery-powered headlamps, and the characters are half in darkness and half in gloom. Now why put on a pair of glasses and turn down the lights? One purpose of 3-D is to create the illusion of depth. One way to do this is to avoid violating the fourth wall by seeming to touch it. Let me give a famous example from "Jaws 3D. He even follows the curious practice of framing middle action with large, indistinct blocks of foreground stones and stuff.

But they are out of focus so that the mid-range can look sharp, and 3-D only makes us wonder why the closer objects are less distinct. In close quarters, he has to use many closeups, and those, too, get old in a hurry in 3-D. The 3-D movie " Journey to the Center of the Earth " did a much better job of placing its actors in its spaces. There is great spatial disorientation in the use of close shots.

There is a scene where a character gets in trouble underwater, and I invite anyone to explain exactly what happens. Three team members follow many of the events from above on a large computer monitor.
